Standalone calibre ebook reader3/1/2023 Indeed, I can launch "ebook-viewer" and then open any ebook from inside the (There is no standalone competent non-library- hoarding ebook reader app for Mac.) This hasn't solved the problem.Ĭould we please have the old behavior back? We would benefit from having a mechanism for opening ebooks without having to include them in the Calibre library. I have attempted to reset, uninstall, reboot and reinstall a fresh copy of Calibre. On the other hand, if I launch ebook-reader app first and then from inside that app, using the "Open a book on your computer" button, open a ePub file in finder, that works fine. Operationally, I set ebook-reader as my default app for opening ePub files, and could quickly open them by just double-clicking the files.Īfter the v5 update, double-clicking a new ePub file in finder just opens and closes the ebook-reader app. Prior to upgrading to v5 (5.0.1), I could open ePub files from the Finder using the 'ebook-reader' app inside the Calibre bundle, without having to add those files to the Calibre library. I am maintaining Calibre through Homebrew. I am operating in the latest MacOS version, 10.15.7.
